SL Airport Expo Blog Spotlight: Devyn Smythe and Deidre Faulds

Today we have 3 Blog Spotlights! The first one is on Baitoushan Intercontinental Airport owners, Devyn Smythe and Deidre Faulds! Both Deidre and Devyn provided some information about their airport and what they like to do in Second Life, when not flying:

QUESTIONS RELATED TO YOUR SL AIRPORT:

1.  What inspired you to create your airport in Second Life?
We wanted  runway long and wide enough to land and take off larger planes.

2.  Tell us about your airport, what were your aims and goals in Second Life, when you created it?   
To  have the largest aircraft take off & land at same time and to have a dock area large enough for big boats

3.  Is your airport modeled or inspired after a real life airport?    If so which one?
The control tower is a copy of a control tower at  Arlanada Aiport  in  Stockholm, Sweden.

4.  How long have you owned your airport?  is your airport opened to the general public?  Is a group required to rezz?  What are some activities or items that people can do at your airport?
About 2 years at baitoushan , but have an airport of some type or the other since 2008. It is opened to the general public -- 10min rezz for non group.  We rent out a few hangers. The sim to the north (small town of Demortesville has bars, a hotel, shops, etc. You may drive from Baitoushan across the sim on road, walk down the steps NE of the lounge,  or walk up the steps  by the ferry dock in the northeast corner of marina

You may fly to  many mainland airports nearby or farther away. You can boat to many protected water sims where there are islands and underwater places to explore.

5.  We are thrilled to have your airport come to our SL Airport Expo and be a part of Aviation Month! What inspired you to take part?
Advertisment  and exposure for our airport.

1.  How long have you been in Second Life?
Devyn - since January 11, 2008
Deirdre since Oct 11, 2007

2.  What made you first join Second Life?
Devyn- I read about it in a newspaper and wanted to know what a virtual world was.
Deirdre-i came to be with my best freind in rl. She had moved to a different part of the country and this allowed us to hang out together.

3.   What are some of the strangest things you have experienced or seen in Second Life?
Devyn-too numerous to list

4.  Other than owning an airport in Second Life and being interested in aviation, what are some other things you like to do while you are in Second Life?
Devyn - Combat, boating motorcyles, car racing, clubs , concerts, bars, building
Deirdre-- same as above but some shopping,some buiding

5.  If you could invite anyone from RL into SL, who would it be?  
Devyn-- my mom and dad
Deirdre--idk
